16 Ways to Research Keywords for Blog Content

There are many ways to research keywords / keywords ranging from free to paid methods, from the simplest way to complicated ways. This article I will give you 16 tips on keyword research that you can use to create your blog content.

Keyword is the most important part before you start optimizing the website or before you write articles on your blog, because if the keyword research is wrong the results will also not be optimal, it's useless you bleed in SEO Onpage and Offpage but you choose the wrong keywords.

Keyword research is a way to identify your enemies, what keywords you should target, how to compete, how to monetize it if the target keyword is on the first page.

The purpose of keyword research is NOT just to search for easy keywords to enter the first page. The purpose of keyword research is to search for keywords that have the potential to generate high traffic and also have high value for your business.

I discussed how to choose high-value keywords in the next article. This article I will discuss how to find keyword ideas for your website.

Here I summarize 16 ways to research keywords to find ideas that you can use to create blog content.

1. Ubersuggest
The first way you can use the ubersuggest tool is neil patel. This tool is free and gives decent results to find the keyword ideas you want to target. The results of the data provided are also quite complete, such as search volume, which we cannot see anymore through the Google keyword planner.

In contrast to most other keyword research tools that usually only give "derivative keyword" results, ubersuggest can provide new keyword ideas that are still relevant to the keywords you are targeting.

Here I try to find the idea of keywords for the target keyword "diet". The result is not like the google keyword planner that displays all the keywords that contain the word "diet", ubersuggest provides keyword ideas that are relevant to the word diet like this:

The keyword that appears is "how to lose weight", very relevant to diet keywords. Besides that, Ubersuggest also provides keyword competitiveness features, namely "SEO Scientific (SD)" which is in the far right column with a range of 1 - 100, the higher the value, the more difficult the competition.

The SD parameter uses DA and PA MOZ as a measure of the strength of the website on the first page, so this value is not accurate, my advice should not be too focused on the Keyword Competition from the results of keyword research tools. To see the competition, you should immediately check the website on the first page of Google directly.

2. Wikipedia
The next place you can use to find keyword ideas for your website is "WIKIPEDIA".

You only need to enter one of the articles according to the topic you are targeting.

From this article you can find keyword ideas that are relevant to the topic of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) such as keyword density, Ranking manipulation, page rank, result page, inbound links, google, link schame, meta tags, etc.

What if my web is Indonesian? easy, you just need to translate it to Indonesian. Or you can look for it on Wikipedia Indonesia.

This is the result when I scrape related keywords from Wikipedia using word2vec (machine learning):

I found keyword ideas that are relevant to SEO topics such as semantic, pagerank, crawl, indexing, HTML, Content.

3. Long Tail Pro
Long tail pro is one of the paid tools that is quite popular among SEO practitioners. The best known is the KC matrix (competitiveness keyword) where this metric gives you information about the difficulty level of the keyword ranked on the first page.

This matrix calculates the matrix that the website has on the first page of Google, parameters that are taken into account such as the number of links, TF, aged, and the relationship with the title of the website on the first page.

You can try long tail pro with the trial version first.

4. Semrush
Just like ubersuggest, you can provide keyword ideas for the topic of your website. In addition to finding new ideas from the main keywords, then most often used to find keyword ideas of competitors. Just like the LTP and ubbersugest tools, semrush also displays search volumes that are not currently displayed by google keyword planner, so you have an idea of how much traffic you will get if your keyword is ranked first.

Any keywords that are ranked by competitors or which keywords your competitors haven't optimized can use using Semrush's tools. Unfortunately semrush tools do not provide information on the level of difficulty for these keywords. Different from Long Tail Pro tools that provide information on keyword difficulty levels based on KC metrics (Keyword Competitiveness).

5. Keyword Competitors
This way you can search for keyword ideas directly from your competitors website.

You can directly type in your competitors' web or search it first on Google according to your target keywords.

This method is quite easy, you just need to pay attention to each article on the web and the categories used.

Try to enter each post, then check the keywords they use, how to submit the article using what method, you just need to modify it and discuss it from a different perspective. Remember, don't copy and paste competitor articles into our web, just look at the article idea, what is discussed, what keywords appear.

From looking at the list of articles belonging to competitors, we can already get what keyword ideas we will use. Please list all of these keywords.

You can also enter each article to get other relevant keywords, this phase I will discuss in the next article why you should collect relevant keywords for each of the main keywords that you are targeting.

6. Google Hidden Keyword
This feature is still relatively new from the Google search results, which we have known from the search results there are only two, namely google suggest (a keyword that appears when we type a query in the search box), and google related search (usually appears at the end search).

This one can be said as HIDDEN because keywords will appear after we enter one of the websites of Google search results, then click the "back" button in the browser. The result will be like this:

Why is hidden because this keyword actually appears in the search results, but Google uses the css <style = "display: none"> code so that the new keyword appears when the user presses the back button on the browser.

To see this keyword, you only need to enter one web site from the search results of the query that you are targeting, then press the back button on the browser, later related keywords will appear for the url that you visited earlier.

7. Kwfinder
These tools are the same as the suggestions but the kwfinder tools are paid, for the free version only a few keywords are limited.

Thefinder also provides information on the level of competition for keywords with a value of 1-100, the higher the value also the more difficult the competition.

8. Scrapebox Keyword Tool
Scrapebox is one of the SEO tools that most use it for backlink activity, but actually Scrapebox functions not only for backlinks, as the name implies scrapebox actually functions to do scraping, or collect data.

There are many features that can be used using Scrapebox, one of which is to generate multiple keywords, but only keywords, there is no other information such as the number of searches or keyword competition information such as Ubbersugest, Longtailpro or Kwfinder above.

9. Google Search Console
Google Webmaster tools which are now Google Search Console (GSC) are one of the Google tools that must be installed on your main website, a lot of information is obtained from your GSC dashboard.

With GSC you can see the performance of your main website, how to Crawl Google against the web, if there are errors in the structure of the website, you can even see whether the website is under Google's control or better known as the Manual Action.

GSC can also be used to view search queries that have entered your website, so you can know which keywords have not been optimized, whether you need to create new articles or optimize existing articles.

The function of this feature is to see the number of times your website appears when a user types in a particular query, and how many times your website is clicked for that query. After Google was able to ascertain what percentage of your website's CTR to search for these queries.

This method is better used when your website has many articles, because Google will display more search queries.

Please go to Search Traffic> Search Analytics.

In the example above, I can find out that the Saungseo website appeared 1,778 times for seo keyword searches in the last 28 days in Google search results and 132 users entered my website.

You can download all the results, because it is easier to analyze using Microsoft Excel.

Then filter the impressions section, please filter> 50, then highlight the columns from large to small positions. Later you can see keywords that you haven't optimized.

10. keywordtool.io
Keywordtool.io is one of the paid tools that provides search results from Google Suggest. These tools are paid to see all the data such as number of searches, cpc values, trends and adword competition.

But to find ideas you only need the keywords, for the competition can be done manually which I will discuss in the next material.

11. Google Suggestion & Related Search
Google suggestion and related keywords always appear when you do a search on Google. From these 2 features you can also find ideas for keywords to make articles or can be used to strengthen the main keywords that you are targeting.

By using Google Suggestion and Google Related Search you can find the main keyword to be an article that you will discuss in your web or can be used as a support keyword from your main keyword.

To search keyword recipe cakes, Google gives clue or alternative keywords related to cake recipes, then I choose the top position, namely "wet cake recipe"

After you click search, then scroll to the bottom of the Google search results, then you will also see related keywords that Google gives for results from Wet Cake Recipe like this:

Google Suggest and Related keyword is actually almost the same function, which is giving searches related to the keywords you are targeting, usually results from google suggestion or related search will usually be the main keywords that will be made into articles even if they will be made into supporting keywords separate articles and made silos for the internalink structure to be more optimal.

I will discuss this issue in the next article.

12. Histats
Histats is one of the tools of Visitor Stats counter or you can say that the number of visitors that enter your website.

In addition to recording how many visitors enter your website, histats also record visitors who enter through Google search engines using what keywords.

13. Marketplace
Another way you can find keyword ideas that you can use on your website is to look for it in the marketplace.

There are many marketplaces that you can use to find article-making ideas, for example for the local market. You can use the Tokopedia marketplace because there you can see all categories that can be your idea of creating website content or keywords that you can use to strengthen your main keywords.

14. Ahrefs
Ahref is one of the most used SEO tools by webmasters to look at backlinks owned by their website or analyze backlinks of competitors' websites.

Ahref's data is far more complete than its competitors such as MOZ and Majestic, it's not surprising if most webmasters choose ahref as their flagship tool to analyze a website.

In addition to providing more complete data, Ahref has a feature that not only analyzes backlinks but is also able to retrieve any keyword data ranked by a website.

You can just enter your website or you can use your web site's competitors:

From the ahrefs data we can see what keywords are caught for the website, how many searches, potential traffic and also the position of keywords in the search engines.

This tool is very useful for optimizing keywords that you have not optimized on your website or you can use to create new articles from the results of those keywords.

15. Spying Method
It is almost the same as the number 4 above where you are looking for keyword ideas from competitor websites that are on the first page of Google, but for this method you do not look for it from the website on the first page, but from websites that have sold expensive on flippa.com.

How to Research This keyword uses the tools that I have discussed above, namely semrush, or you can also use ahrefs.

Please log in to flippa> Established sites> Just Sold

Then you can choose the website and niche that you want to emulate. Next you just enter the url or web domain name you choose into the tools like that.

Download all the results to make it easier to organize each keyword.

16. Keyword Revealer
These tools are the same as Long Tail Pro above, the difference is the parameter in determining the competition keyword or the level of competition on the first page. Previously for the LTP tool, use the metric parameter from majestic, for the keyword revealer using the metric from MOZ.

For other alternatives you can also use these tools in finding keywords for your website.

These tools are paid, but you can use the free version first.

The 16 keyword research methods above are just the way you collect a list of potential keywords for your blog or website. Not that you can directly use it to make content.

Of the 16 ways the keyword research above does not all provide information such as search volume and the level of competition for those keywords. For those who do not provide information on search volume, you can check the ubersuggest, and you can check the difficulty level of the keyword directly on the first page, how about the keyword competition.

In addition, from the list of keywords that you get using the method above, you have to filter them again which keywords can be made into 1 or combined with several other keywords, which keywords are high based on the type of website and what type of monetize you use to Your website.
